I don’t have very much experience in teaching in a classroom setting. While being a student I’ve witnessed the use of educational technology. The most common one that was present was the use of the overhead projector. It was a fast, efficient way for the teacher to express her lesson without having to write it on the board, and at the same time all of the students could see it at once. Coming to college, I began seeing professors use integrity, which is a recording device that allowed professors to record the lessons so the students could go on e-learning and listen to it in case they missed class or notes. There are certain factors that can encourage or discourage the use of technology in a classroom setting. A way that it can discourage it, is that the students can become relaxed, therefore beginning to slip in their work. Getting comfortable knowing that teachers have programs such as integrity could cause students to stay at home rather than go to class. It can also be positive things, because it makes things easier on the teachers as well as the learners. I feel that technology should be integrated into teaching and learning more at younger ages because technology changes so much and it would prepare kids better for their future. I would define educational technology as technology that is used to educate students. Technology’s role in teaching is major because without it I believe class will be boring and students wouldn’t get as much out of class. I think the media is the main factor that encourages technology in the classroom. Technology’s role in learning is to provide students with an interesting, new school, more efficient way of learning. The more technology in today’s world, the easier it will be on learners and teachers. It has helped me tremendously in the years that I have been in school.
